The main competition held in July was for the J.R.James Shield, a 36 hole competition held over consecutive days. With the weather set fair, some good scores were returned with just two shots separating the top four. Winner this year playing off a handicap of 5 was Dylan Morris with 65 and 72 for a two round total of 137. One shot behind was Harvi Singh with 68 and 70 total of 138 playing off 11. A shot further back playing off 6 was Sion Meredith with a 72 +67 – 139 total beating Wayne Gornall 71+ 68 -139 who played off 10,on the back nine of the second round.
On the Sunday of the J.R.James an Extra Medal was included and the round of the day came from Jac Rimmer with 70-5-65 with Ioan Richards second on 70-4-66. A shot further back was Sion Meredith’s second round of 73-6-67 beating Wayne Gornall’s second round 78-10-68. Jac just holds on to his five handicap but Ioan and Sion drop a shot while Wayne Gornall also drops a shot to become a single handicapper. During this round Mark Rimmer (Jac’s father) saw his tee shot on the 13th end in the hole for his first hole in one. Harvi Singh playing in a Wednesday Cut Throat competition also saw his tee shot on the 13th find the hole, his second hole in one.
The third round of the Redvers Llewellyn also took place and Jonathan Evans led the way with 69-4-65 beating Justin Quinn in second on 72-5-67. Third was Dylan Morris with 74-5-69 holding off Jeremy Edmunds 76-6-70. Jonathan and Justin both see a drop of a shot on their handicap due to their excellent returns.
The July Summer Stableford was also held and Daniel Bassnett with 40 points off 10 was the comfortable winner from Aled Bebb 37 off 14 with D C Edwards 36 off 20 third beating Harvi Singh also 36 off 12 into fourth.
The Seniors had a busy time in July travelling to Aberdyfi to narrowly lose by 4 matches to 3. Playing away at Llanidloes again they lost by 3 ½ matches to 1 ½. However on home ground entertaining Llandrindod they came away with an impressive 5-1 win.
