Two very important events took place on the last day of 2017 at Aberystwyth Golf Club.
The first saw in- coming Captain Alun John’s ‘Drive in’ and he received his Captains’ memorabilia from outgoing Captain Barry Phipson. Born and bred in Aberystwyth, after serving his community in the world of education, Alun ended up as head teacher of his local school, Penrhyncoch where he and his wife Pam live. Despite being one of the club’s many Senior players, he still manages to play off a respectable handicap of 12 having once been a low handicapper in his day.
He also announced that his Vice-Captain for 2018 would be Martin Harries.

The other event saw outgoing President John Wooton similarly hand over his chain of office to the new President Terry Richards who also ‘drove’ his Presidency in alongside his Captain. Terry and his wife Iris also live in Penrhyncoch. He would be the first to admit that he has a difficult job to follow a very popular John Wooton who must be said carried the burden of office in an exemplary way often standing in for fellow officers.

Following the ‘Drive in’, attended by large crowd of members and friends, over thirty brave and loyal players played a Stableford Competition. Leading the way was an in form cut throat player Dai A Davies with 38 points off his handicap of 14 seeing his handicap drop to 13. Runner up was Emlyn Thomas with 37 points off 12 and third with the best 36 points score off 6 was John Walter Davies beating Clive E Williams (also 36 points) off 9.

Two competitors were rewarded for being nearest the pin - Martin Haynes at the 9th and Emlyn Thomas at the 18th.
