Thanks to Aleb Bebb for his latest Cambrian News report.

Once play resumed at the Aberystwyth Golf Club after the pandemic lockdown the players have been competing with enthusiasm.

The highlight of the competitions so far was the 36 hole Corporation Cup played on consecutive days. On the Saturday under difficult windy conditions Ioan Rhys Richards led the way with an excellent 76-6-70 return to lead from Stuart Wassall and Jeremy Edmunds both on 75 net totals. The Sunday however saw Ioan slightly lose his way with an 82-6-76 return for a total of 70+76=146. Jeremy Edmunds meanwhile returned a second round of 76-5-71 to equal Ioan’s score 75+71=146. On countback with a better back nine Jeremy Edmunds was deemed the narrow winner.

In the Club Championship Knock Out Final Jeremy Edmunds again came up against Anthony Griffiths. After 36 holes, the match was level, but after sharing the 37th hole Anthony Griffiths finally won the Championship on the 2nd extra hole for the second year running.

The other important “Board” competition finally settled was the “Redvers Llewellyn Shield”. Winning this competition for the first time was Alun P Thomas with 85-16-67 from Ben Slater 76-8-68 and Dave Houghton 79-10-69.
